Growing in Connection with God and One Another

Spry Church,

This weekend we continue our series on the letters of John in the Bible. One of the central themes in these New Testament letters, and in Scripture as a whole, is that God created us not to live in isolation but for connection and community. You were made for connection with God and others.

We have a lot to celebrate and look forward to as a church family. Spry Fest was a big success! We saw new people, familiar faces we hadn’t seen in months, and nearby neighbors. There was lots of fun, lots of fellowship, and lots of laughter. It was a great time of connection. One person said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to church, but I think I’d like to be part of a church like this!”

Yard Sale – This Weekend

Our Fall Yard Sale is this weekend, Friday 8-4 and Saturday 8-1 at our School St. Campus. You can find some great deals and all proceeds support mission work, showing and sharing the love of God with people right around the corner and around the world.

Fall Missions Offering – Help Promote Children’s Literacy

To promote children’s literacy in our local schools, we will set aside $1 for every person attending worship on September 26 (including online worship). This money, along with any designated giving, will be used to buy books for children at Ore Valley, Leaders Heights, and York Township Elementary Schools. We’d love for everyone to invite a friend to worship on this day. This will add to our total support and put books in the hands of students to encourage them to read at home!

Update from the Staff-Parish Relations Committee

Effective October 1, Rev. Scott McKenzie, Ph.D., will be resigning from the Spry Church staff in order to focus on his work with Horizons Stewardship helping churches and nonprofits obtain essential funding for their ministries. Over the past 14 months, Scott has helped to cultivate a culture of generosity in our church that has led to increased impact in ministry to our community and beyond. Because of Scott’s work among us, the advancements we have been able to make during this time position our church for continued excellence in fulfilling our mission and glorifying God. The systems Scott has put in place and helped us develop will enable us to continue to thrive as we serve God’s purposes moving forward. We thank Scott for his many contributions, pray God's blessings upon him, and wish him the best.

Bishops’ District Gatherings

Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi and Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball began providing oversight of the Susquehanna Conference on September 1. Both Bishops are excited to begin this new assignment. For the Bishops to begin to become acquainted with the Susquehanna Conference and our seven districts, there will be clergy/laity gatherings in each district. All clergy and laity are invited to attend one of the district gatherings. At least one of the Bishops will be in person at each gathering. The closest gathering is on Sunday, October 3 at Messiah UMC (1300 North Beaver Street, York) from 3:00-5:30pm. You can sign up here:

I’m excited about worship this weekend as we continue to grow in connection with Jesus and others!
