Dear Spry Family,
Tomorrow is September 11, 2020--the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Do you remember that day and the days that followed? That was a time when our nation, facing tragedy and uncertainty, came together. I wonder what it might look like for us to begin to come together as a nation during this time. And, I wonder how people like you and me can play at least a small part in that kind of work. God will reveal that to us through prayer, and that's the theme of our worship this weekend. I hope you'll join us online or in person for outdoor worship (10am Sunday at 65 School St. in the field right across from our School St. Campus).
Here's a deep conviction that I have on the basis of the Gospel: Christians are called to be personally engaged in the work of healing, restoration, and renewal in our local communities, nation, and world. I invite you to join me in praying about that today, this week, and moving forward. It is so easy to see the problems and challenges around us and think there's just nothing we can do in response. But remember, we serve the Lord God Almighty. We are the people of God. So we can pray, for example: "Lord, what do You want to do through me?"
That prayer is at the heart of our "Today, Lord!" capital campaign. God is working in our church and through our church. People's lives are being enriched and blessed through our church every single day. We have the opportunity, together, to be part of what the Lord is doing right now to bring people healing, wholeness, and hope in Jesus. Each of us has a part to play.
Here's our campaign video (8 minutes) describing the nature and purpose of "Today, Lord!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL9e635uUD0&feature=emb_logo.
To share more about our "Today, Lord!" campaign, we have scheduled 5 All Church Gatherings over the next 2 weeks. The gatherings are a mixture of in-person and online (via Zoom). The first gathering is this Saturday, September 12, at 10am at the Pine Grove Campus (2523 Pine Grove Rd., York). Please wear a mask and social distancing will be observed. We have room for about 10 more people. If that day and time suits you, we encourage you to come. In case you haven't signed up yet or need to change, here are the links for the first 2 All Church Gatherings online through Zoom. To join the gathering, simply click on the link below at the appropriate time or use the phone number to call in.

Love Your Neighbor and The WELL
You as a church reach out and serve our community in many ways. I'm so proud of you for that, Spry. Thank you for all you do to show and share the love of Jesus. As the call of Jesus continues to lead us forward, here is an update and an opportunity to serve locally in partnership with The WELL (West-End Local Link). The update comes in the form of a thank you from LuAnn Smith, Board President of The WELL, who wrote to say this about the work of our Love Your Neighbor Initiative (through which we donate supplies to The WELL for our neighbors in need): "The WELL clients have certainly benefited from your recent personal care donations! Our clients are always in need of these supplies and we are grateful for your support to have them available for their use."
There is an immediate need for board members and volunteers at The WELL. Pine Grove UMC, predecessor to what will be our Spry Church Pine Grove Campus, was a long-term supporter of The WELL in various ways, including through donations and board membership. LuAnn has requested that we share information with our congregation regarding current needs. You can find that information below, at the very end of this email.
The Power of Prayer
To conclude, I want to return to the theme of prayer. I believe in the power of prayer. Through prayer, the Lord has transformed my life. We are all called to be people of prayer. Think of the impact we can have together, by God's grace, as we seek the Lord continually in prayer, praying earnestly not just for ourselves and our families but also for our community, our nation, and our world. Think of the impact we can have together, by God's grace, as we act on what the Holy Spirit reveals to us through prayer. That's our theme for worship this weekend, and I hope you'll join us outdoors or online as we worship Jesus and lift up our prayers before God's throne together. Today, Lord!

The WELL Food Pantry is seeking to expand their volunteer base. Can you help us? We provide food and personal care products to York County residents on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings and the second Saturday of each month. You may volunteer as much as you are interested, from once per month, as needed, one week per month, or more. Volunteer hours are from 8:45 until 11:45. Unloading and stocking of supplies, filling grocery bags, making children’s bags or personal care bags, and sorting produce and other supplies are duties to perform while volunteering. Some lifting is required.
Please call The WELL at (717) 852-7345 or email The WELL at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are willing to help distribute food to our clients and join our team.
Board Membership for the WELL
We are actively seeking to expand our board with those having a giving heart interested in serving the York Community at our Food Pantry. Persons from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to join us. Bilingual language skills are a plus. Previous board experience is not required but also a plus. We are a Christian-run, non-profit agency that is welcoming to all.
We meet 6 times per year, every other third Thursday at 7 PM at Calvary United Methodist on Richland Ave. We are currently looking for community members, a grant writer, fundraising support, pastoral leadership guidance, and a legal representative.
Please email LuAnn Smith (email@example.com) if you have a desire to help in the York Community.
