What to Expect
Dear Spry Family,
It's been 14 weeks since we last gathered in person to worship God. I never could have imagined a scenario where that would happen. But, I'm grateful to be able to say that after 14 weeks of not holding in-person worship, this Sunday June 21 we resume gathering together to worship God. Today someone asked me how I felt and I said, "I'm excited and a little nervous"--nervous because it's been so long since I've led worship in person! She's a teacher and she related it right away to that first-day-of-school feeling. I thought that was a helpful way of thinking about it. So, this Sunday is a bit like the experience teachers and students have of going back to school. But that's enough talk of back to school...summer has just begun!
Seriously, this email includes the latest information about in-person worship, online worship, and our call-in worship option over the phone. Please read all the way to the end regardless of your worship preference during this time.
Starting June 21, we will once again offer our 9am traditional service and the 9:45am and 11am contemporary services. Sunday School for all ages and the children's programs, including the nursery, will resume at a later date. Kids can pick up a packet with crayons and an activity sheet that they can use during worship and then take home with them. All other church activities can resume starting June 21 at the discretion of the leader or leader of those activities.
I'm so excited to see many of you again! We also recognize that people will make different decisions about when to come back to church, and we respect everyone's decision. We want you to do what you think is best. Starting this Sunday, you can worship with us in person, online, or by listening over the phone (see details below).
We will be implementing major changes to ensure safe social distancing and increased sanitation procedures. For example, our greeters will not shake hands and will stand farther away from people compared to before. There will be no greeting time during worship or receiving line after worship, and there will be no handing out bulletins or passing fellowship pads or offering plates or baskets. Upon exiting our worship areas, there will be secure offering boxes where you can leave your contributions. As always, you can also give by mail (50 School St., York, PA 17402), online at SpryChurch.com/give, or by text at 833-617-0093. Your giving changes lives and brings people hope. Thank you for your faithful support of God's work through our church!
We also encourage, though are not requiring, masks to be worn as we gather to worship. If you are experiencing signs of illness, or if you have recently been around someone displaying signs of illness, we ask you to please refrain from coming to our church campus and encourage you to seek medical attention. Please let us know what's going on so we can pray for you by submitting your prayer requests to prayer@SpryChurch.com. We want to do what we can to help keep everyone safe and well. We want to be guided by love for our neighbors as Jesus commands.
Ways to Serve
Here are two ways you can serve at this time. You can be part of our Sunday morning Cleaning Team. This team cleans certain areas in between services, such as doorknobs and countertops. Instructions and supplies, including gloves to ensure personal safety, will be provided. You can be one of our Greeters. Even without shaking hands, a warm welcome can go a long way toward helping people feel connected at Spry. We could use additional help immediately in both of these ways. If you'd like to volunteer with our Cleaning Team or as a Greeter, please contact the church office (office@SpryChurch.com / 717-741-1429).
Other Ways to Worship
Online worship will continue every week, and the audio recording of each week's service will continue to be available over the phone. By calling this toll-free number, 1-833-831-8193, you can listen at any time to the most recent service. Please share this number if you know someone without internet connection who would like to listen to our worship services.
Here's a new opportunity to connect through online worship! Starting this Sunday and continuing each week, we will host a watch party at 10am at our church Facebook page, Facebook.com/SpryChurch. This feature will allow people who wish to participate in worship at the same time, from their respective locations, to do so together. People can check in and say hello, share prayer requests, and connect in real time with other worshipers and with our host. Online worship will continue to be available 24/7 starting at 7pm on Saturday night. The watch party is simply an opportunity for people who wish to watch together to do so and to connect in that way. If, for example, you plan to stay home for the foreseeable future, you could establish a pattern of a set time of worship online with other people (your friends, family, Sunday School class or Bible study, etc.) through this watch party at 10am each Sunday through our church Facebook page, and that could be a great way to connect on a regular basis. Find the way that you feel most comfortable--whether in person, online, or over the phone--and worship with us!
Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we navigate these times. It's such a privilege to serve the Lord together with you all in our Spry Church family. We know the Lord has great things in store for our church and our community. I truly believe we will come out of this season stronger than ever before, able to be used by God in even greater ways to serve our community and beyond and sharing the love and hope of Christ with all.
